Cellcom profits up in second quarter

O2 will preload telemap navigataion app

  • O2 UK has announced that it is to embed Telmap’s navigation and mapping software into the majority of its GPS-enabled phones. The operator will also be providing first level customer support and billing support for the service.
  • Two of Israel’s mobile network operators have submitted non-binding offers to buy rival network, MIRS, which is currently owned by Motorola.
  • Partner Communications, Israel’s second largest mobile operator, on Monday posted a 2.1 percent rise in quarterly profit, helped by lower operating expenses and a larger customer base.
  • Israel’s Ministry of Communications has ruled that customers who buy their mobile phone from a 3rd party supplier should be entailed to the same operator benefits as customers who buy their handsets from approved suppliers.
  • Chip developer Zoran Corporation is laying off several dozen employees from its mobile division. This follows the firing of 40 employees 18 months ago.
  • First Israel Mezzanine Investors CEO Ishay Davidi has been disqualified from the race to buy Partner Communications, ostensibly because of noncompliance with the terms laid down by the Israeli mobile service provider’s parent company.
  • Allot Communications Ltd , a leader in IP service optimization and revenue generation solutions based on deep packet inspection (DPI), announced a framework agreement with a global tier-1 mobile operator group.
  • New York-based Didiom, the “award-winning” mobile media service provider, has this week announced that its Didiom application for on-the-go streaming of computer media to mobile phones is finally making the leap to Research In Motion’s (RIM’s) BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Israeli cellular operators have apparently opted for collaboration to deal with Apple Inc’s content model for iPhone. On Friday, Partner Communications Ltd. announced that it would collaborate with leading Israeli websites to create special web applications for iPhone.
  • Cellcom Israel Ltd. launched the first Googlephone in Israel. Cellcom will launch the Samsung Electronics  i7500 Galaxy Googlephone, which in addition to Google Inc.  Android operating system.

  • Real-time crowd-sourcing navigation app Waze has cleared Apple’s App Store approval team and appeared for download, promising not only free turn-by-turn directions but peer-based traffic and road-condition updates
  • Telefonica, Spain’s leading mobile operator, has selected Olista’s mobile user-experience platform to improve its customers’ experience when using Telefonica’s data services.
  • Scailex Corp said on Thursday it had submitted a binding bid for Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd’s majority stake in Partner, Israel’s second-largest mobile phone operator.
  • Israel’s Pelephone is planning a bid to buy fellow mobile phone operator MIRS, parent company Bezeq Israel Telecom said on Thursday.
  • Pelephon has reportedly announced its financial reports for Q2′09. The mobile operator posted a 13.3% growth in its profits to NIS 1.35 billion in Q2, as compared to NIS 1.19 billion in Q2′08. Operating profit increased to NIS 321 million while net profit rose to NIS 233 million, up 29.4% in comparison to Q2′08.
